Agro Action Camp - Breeding grounds for action

"Breeding grounds for action" - Agro Action Camp, 2-4 May 2011, Flevoland (NL)

ImageFrom 2 to 4 May ASEED organises three days of camping at an organic farm in the Flevopolder (NL). With workshops, discussions and action around biotech, bio-industry and alternatives to industrial agriculture.

What have megastables to do with genetic engineering and community gardens? What role do Monsanto and other multinationals play, what is food sovereignty, how can we build up a truely social and sustainable food chain? These and more topics will be addressed in a wide range of workshops and presentations. Suggestions welcome. There is as well a list of tasks people can take on if they want to help, both now and during the camp.
We expect farmers and gardeners, students and animal lovers, activists and slow-foodies.

In the Netherlands there is more and more attention for resistance against industrial agriculture, but it seems that in the countries around us inspiring movements are really emerging. For example Reclaim the Fields, a network of young people that want to start farming themselves in an environmentally friendly and social way, but also organize protests against the agro-business and all its abuses. This camp is not officially part of Reclaim the Fields of the network, but there will be several active people from other European countries to share their experiences.

The location is the biodynamic agriculture company Gaos in Swifterbant. Gaos produces organic seeds, generates renewable energy and cooperates in a delivery service of organic food.

There is limited space at the farm where the camp is held. And for planning food and the program know we like to know how many people to expect. So register timely: landbouwactiekamp@aseed.netThis e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Also for more info, you can mail here.

Here you find some practical information and ways to help make the camp a success.

Practical
You are welcome from Sunday May 1, 17:00. The program starts on May 2 We are welcome at BD farm GAOS in Swifterbant (Elandweg 46). See their website www.gaos.nu for a first impression. Entrance to the camp is 15 euros.

Language
Most of the program will be in Dutch, but translation to English will be arranged where needed.

How to get there
Farms in the Flevopolder and public transport are a bad combination. Therefore we will set up a shuttle from Dronten. Cycling from Station Lelystad is 16km. More info will follow.

Food
L' Sabot mobile action kitchen is cooking a delicious organic vegan meal for us. Vouchers for breakfast, lunch and dinner cost €7.50 per day. In the evening the bar is open.

To take with you
tent, sleeping gear, cash (no ATM nearby), your friends.
Don't bring a dog. There are not allowed at the farm because of the cattle.

Want to help?
If you want to help and take on some tasks now or during the camp, please have a look at the list of tasks and contact us.
You can also help us with the mobilisation by spreading posters and flyers. Download the posters and flyers from the website, or ask us to send you some posters and flyers in colour.

It is also possible to help with building up on May 1. And on May 5 we need some people to break down and clean the camp.
