EU Gender equality policy +20 - evaluation of the Beijing Platform for Action and next steps to take

On the occasion of the international women's day 2015 the EU Office of the Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung is pleased to invite you on Thursday, 5th March 2015 at 18h00 (Venue tbc) to an experts debate on "EU Gender equality policy +20 - Evaluation of the Beijing Platform for Action and next steps to take".

Twenty years after the Fourth World Conference on Women in Beijing, formulated goals as the economic independence of women, more women in decision-making positions in economics and politics, and the eradication of violence against women remain unreached. The Beijing Platform for Action thus remains highly relevant and up-to-date. The UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) will in March 2015 review the agreements of Beijing and discuss the necessity of integrating gender equality goals in the post-2015 development agenda. Which role should the EU play in these international negotiations and how can the remaining challenges and claims of in the Beijing Platform for Action be tackled within the EU ?

A dialogue on common priorities for European and international gender equality policies and for activism for human and women's rights is strongly needed twenty years after Beijing. Within the EU not least in light of the rise of far right and antifeminist movements and the impact of the financial- and economic crisis.

Please register until 3rd March 2015 here.
