Present and future of civilian drones
Conférence/Débat
Mardi 10 mars (de 12h30 à 14h)
Preliminary conclusions of an international conference organised in November 2014, in Paris).
RPAS (Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems), often labelled as drones, are one of the most dynamic areas in civil aviation today. The number of operators is growing rapidly in France (around 1000 in mid-2014).
Faced with this challenge, the Air and Space Academy (AAE) and French Aerospace Association (3AF) decided to jointly organise an international conference on civilian RPAS.
The goal of this two-day conference was to bring together key actors to confront and enrich viewpoints, in order to achieve an integrated vision. It aimed to bring out areas needing improvement and actions required to enable this young aeronautics sector to develop in a harmonious way.
The conference was addressed at a wide range of stakeholders: the users of these new systems, manufacturers and operators of whatever size, research organisations, public authorities and regulatory services and all those interested in the social issues raised by this new sector of aviation.
The following topics were discussed:
• The main types of civilian RPAS and global state of the art;
• Meeting the various demands of society in terms of safety, security, environment and privacy whilst respecting other users in terms of shared resources (airspace, frequency);
• The expectations of contractors and operators and market prospects.
The conference was concluded with a round table bringing together experts from all the sectors involved.
Following the conference, a series of recommendations will be drawn up aimed at facilitating development in this branch of aviation.
The purpose of this lecture is to present a summary of the November conference and a preliminary list of conclusions.
Speaker: Mr Raymond Rosso: Correspondent of the AAE and Rapporteur of the Working group on RPAS Pilits, 3AF.
